Veysonnaz
sits at an altitude of
1,400m in the French-speaking part of the Valais canton of
Switzerland. It is fifteen minutes from Sion, the capital of
Valais, and it overlooks Sion and the Rhone Valley some 1,000m below. We have made a page with links to some maps and travel suggestions. Veysonnaz is just over an hour and a half drive from Geneva Airport - there are lots of car hire options at the airport. The location of Veysonnaz means that it has some of the best views of any village in the area. Also, in winter the location means the surrounding slopes have a perfect balance of good snow and sunshine. Veysonnaz has a pituresque old village centre, with traditional wooden chalets and farm buildings, and short walk away is the more modern resort centre. Veysonnaz has a range of local amenities, including two supermarkets, a number of restaurants and bars, and an indoor swimming pool. Please look at the photo gallery. Mont Rouge is located close to the resort centre, and is a five minute walk away from the old village. ![]() Above Veysonnaz, the slopes (including the famous World-Cup downhill course, Piste de l'Ours) rise to the ski resort of Thyon, at an altitude of 2,100m. The two resorts are linked by a high-speed gondola that is open during the ski season, and in July and August. Veysonnaz is part of the "4 vallées" ski area, which also includes the resorts of Verbier and Nendaz, and it is possible to ski to Verbier in just under an hour. In summer, the forests and meadows surrounding Veysonnaz make for magnificent hiking and mountain biking, or if you prefer a gentle stroll along one of the "Bisse" - the ancient irrogation channels that the area is famous for - then the "Bisse de Vex" passes just behind the building. |
