Distance 12km, 2.5 to 3
hours A longer
walk on a forest road down into Val de Nendaz, returning along
the Bisse de Salins.1. Turn left at the main door of the apartment building (Mont Rouge), and follow the road for a few hundred metres through the resort to the road junction just past the Greppon Blanc restaurant. At the junction bear left uphill - follow the yellow signpost for "Bisse de Vex". 2. After a couple of hundred metres uphill the road levels, and a few hundred metres on turn right along a track, signposted "Bisse de Vex". The path soon crosses the road to Verrey - continue along the path by the Bisse. 3. For the next kilometre,
the path runs alongside the bisse as
it
passes through the meadows and to a metal bridge crossing the
"L'Ojintse" stream. Cross the bridge and follow the bisse for a
further 500 metres, through
forest and then meadows to the small collection of buildings at Le
Chity. The section through the
meadows has spectacular views
across the valley to Nendaz and beyond. The path meets a forest
road that crosses the
bisse at Le Chity.4. Turn right onto the forest road and follow it downhill through the Forêt Noire. After about 1.5 kilometres, the track fords the stream Le Doussin (if the stream is very full then you may need to return the way you came and leave the rest of the walk for another day). About 800 metres further on, the road becomes tarmac as it enters the meadows above Beuson, and soon reaches a junction with the road up the Nendaz Valley. 5. Turn right and follow the valley road downhill - after a few hundred metres you will pass a sign on the left for "Veysonnaz" and "Bisse de Salins". Follow the road for about 100 metres after this sign and look for yellow painted markings on a stone wall on the right side of the road - the "Bisse de Salins" path starts here, though the first few metres of the path may be quite indistinct. The path runs through the grass just above the right hand side of the road. 6. The path soon becomes more definite as it traverse the hillside next to the bisse, passing through some very pleasant woodland. The bisse is more like a small stream along this section, tumbling through rocky gaps in the hillside. There are a couple of sections where there are quite large drops just beside the path, so please take care, especially with children. The bisse leads to a yellow signpost for "Clèbes" and "Veysonnaz" pointing up a steep path on the other side of the bisse - this is a shorter route back to Veysonnaz, as described from point 4 onwards in the walk "Clèbes and the Bisse de Salins". Continue along the bisse, to a narrow bridge over the L'Ojintse valley. 7. Cross the
bridge (taking care, as the bridge is quite exposed), and
follow the bisse across the dry hillside to another yellow signpost for
"Veysonnaz" - the steep uphill path from here is the outward route of
the walk "Clèbes and the
Bisse de Salins". The bisse continues round the hillside, and
crosses the main road to Veysonnaz afert about 1.5 kilometres. Cross
the road and continue along the bisse to where a steep farm track
crosses the bisse, about 500 metres after the road crossing. Keep
following the bisse path, and about 700 metres later a second farm
track is reached, which heads back right and uphill towards
Veysonnaz. Leave the Bisse de Salins here and join the track
(this is the start of section 4 of the walk "Forêt de
Salins and the Bisse de Salins", so for a longer return route the
description for that walk can be followed in reverse).4. Follow the track quite steeply uphill. Just after the track becomes tarmac, turn left onto a track that leads up to the main road to Veysonnaz at a right hairpin bend (if you miss this left turn the tarmac track soons leads to the road anyway - in this case turn left on the road and follow it uphill to the hairpin). Turn left at the bend onto Route de Boui, then immediately right onto Chemin de Coire - this leads steeply uphill to Veysonnaz village. At the next junction (opposite the fire station), turn left along the road, the right onto Chemin des Jardins (follow signpost for "Veysonnaz") which leads up to the village centre. Stop for a cold drink or an ice-cream, then follow one of the roads uphill to the resort centre and back to Mont Rouge in about 10 minutes. Forêt du Magrappe and the Bisse de Vex - distance 4.5km, 1 hour Clèbes and the Bisse de Salins - distance 5km, 1.5 hours Verrey and the Bisse de Vex - distance 6km, 1.5 hours Forêt de Salins and the Bisse de Salins - distance 7.5km, 2 hours The Bisse de Vex, Forêt Noire, and the Bisse de Salins - distance 12km, 2.5 to 3 hours Thyon, the Piste de l'Ours, and Forêt du Magrappe - distance 11km, 3 to 3.5 hours |
