There are hundreds of
kilometres of signposted paths around Veysonnaz, and the possible
routes for walking and running are endless. This page has
detailed descriptions for a number of routes that we have tried
ourselves, all starting and finishing at the apartment. If you
try any of these routes and find any errors in the descriptions, please
contact us and let us know. These routes are also suitable for
running, though some of the uphills are very hard work! These should be easy enough to follow from the descriptions here and the signposts on the route. If you want to use a map as well, we would recommend using the Sion "Swisstopo" 1:25,000 map (no. 1306 in the series) - this is available in many shops in the area. As this is the Swiss Alps, most of these routes include steep hills and some exposed paths - please ensure you have the proper equipment and take care, especially if you are walking with children. 1. Forêt du Magrappe and the Bisse de Vex - distance 4.5km, 1 hour This is a short walk through the forest around Veysonnaz, returning along the Bisse de Vex. For the most part it follows forest tracks and wide paths, though there are two short, steeper, sections on small paths. 2. Clèbes and the Bisse de Salins - distance 5km, 1.5 hours A short and quite strenous walk that passes through the hamlet of Clèbes and descends to the Bisse de Salins, before climbing steeply back up to Veysonnaz. The route follows a short section of the Bisse de Salins with a bridge crossing that should be avoided by vertigo sufferers! 3. Verrey and the Bisse de Vex - distance 6km, 1.5 hours A gentle walk with not too many hills along the Bisse de Vex, then through forest and meadows to the hamlet of Verrey and back to Veysonnaz. There are fantastic views along most of the route. 4. Forêt de Salins and the Bisse de Salins - distance 7.5km, 2 hours A walk down through the peaceful forest between Veysonnaz and Salins, then along the Bisse de Salins through meadows and woodland before an uphill finish through the old part of Veysonnaz. 5. The Bisse de Vex, Forêt Noire, and the Bisse de Salins - distance 12km, 2.5 to 3 hours A longer walk on a forest road down into Val de Nendaz, returning along the Bisse de Salins. 6. Thyon, the Piste de l'Ours, and Forêt du Magrappe - distance 11km, 3 to 3.5 hours The first half of this route climbs up through the meadows to Thyon, high above Veysonnaz. The return to Veysonnaz crosses the famous Piste de l'Ours and descends on small paths through a very pleasant forest. Marmots are common on the higher parts of this route. |
